Overview

DIN is Germany's national standards body. It is the reason an international standard shows up locally as "DIN EN…".

Reading the prefixes

A single standard can wear several labels as it is adopted at each level.

IEC / ISO
The international original (e.g. IEC 63000)
EN
The European adoption
DIN EN
The German national adoption
(VDE …)
The German electrotechnical filing number

So DIN EN IEC 63000 (VDE 0042-12) and IEC 63000 are the same standard at different levels. For electrotechnical topics, DIN works through the DKE together with VDE.
