Overview

RISL is rail's version of the declarable-substance list. It follows the same idea as GADSL for cars or the IEC 62474 list for electronics, tuned to railway products.

Why sectors keep their own list

A general chemicals rule like REACH touches every industry, but each sector uses different materials and faces different sub-rules. A sector list narrows the universe of substances down to the ones that actually turn up in that industry's parts. That keeps declarations shorter and more consistent across the supply chain.
