Overview

The IEC is the world's standards body for anything electrical. It writes the rules of the road that national standards then adopt.

Why it matters for compliance

Much of the machinery of electronics compliance is IEC work, developed in its technical committees and adopted nationally.

IEC 62474
Material declaration format and declarable substance list
IEC 62321
Lab methods to measure restricted substances
IEC 63000
RoHS technical documentation (as EN IEC 63000)
Committee
Most of the above sits in IEC/TC 111

The committee driving environmental topics is IEC/TC 111. The IEC also partners with ISO on joint standards such as the emerging IEC/ISO 82474-1.
