Definition

Product compliance is the catch-all term for everything a product must meet before it can go on the market, covering both legal rules and customer requirements.

Key point

Substance rules like RoHS and REACH are only one slice of product compliance. The full picture also includes safety, EMC, energy, packaging, and whatever a specific customer demands.

Why the word matters

People often say "compliance" and mean only chemicals. Keeping the wider term in mind prevents tunnel vision. A part can be perfectly RoHS-compliant and still fail product compliance on a different axis. Material data is what proves the chemical slice. See material declaration.
